deko boko

The Deko Boko Masu collection is the result of research into wood surface relief.
By firmly stamping the boxes with a diamond shaped tool, Ohashi gives the wood a textured pattern. This new skin animates the wood surface by catching the light. Its numerous little cavities give the Deko Boko Masu a distinctive texture which can be felt with every touch.

For over 1300 years, the Masu has played an important role in Japanese tradition. Originally a measuring cup for foods such as rice and soy sauce, the Masu came to be used as a measure of rice when it was common as a form of currency. For the Japanese people, the Masu was traditionally as valuable and important as the rice it contained. It is a tradition that remains an essential part of their lives today.

Ohashi Ryoki is a producer of traditional Masu boxes. For 60 years, the company has produced many kinds of Masu for different purposes. Ohashi Ryoki has developed various box shapes and wood treatments in order to encourage the tradition to evolve and widen its perspectives.
